Google and Microsoft are buying nuclear power plants to keep their clouds up in the air. The energy consumption of ICT seems to explode, especially because of the use of AI. How much energy does computing require and what can be done to reduce our digital footprint? Prof dr ir Hans Hilgenkamp (Scientific Director MESA+ institute, UT) gives an overview and explains how big the problem could become.
